Cardinals' DE Watt To Undergo Potential Season-Ending Surgery, Sources Say

Cardinals DE J.J. Watt is set to undergo shoulder surgery that could “potentially end his season”, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported hours after news broke he would miss tonight’s game against the Packers.

The reports says Watt suffered a dislocated shoulder and other damage while attempting to make a tackle in the second quarter. He continued to play the game after the play. This will be the fourth time in the past six season the five-time All-Pro has suffered a season-ending injury.

Tonight will mark Watt's first absence from the Cards’ starting lineup since joining this season. His impact will be missed as he has the third-highest pass rush win rate for DTs, according to NFL Next Gen Stats. The Cards’ defense has been a beneficiary of his prodcution so far. Watt tallied 10 quarterback hits, a sack, and a forced fumble in seven games this season. His pass rush has led to three sacks and two interceptions.

This latest injury might be the one that the three-time DPOY hangs up the cleats for good.
