Knicks Win Double OT Thriller in Opener Against Celtics

The energy was electric in Madison Square Garden as the Knicks got a 138-134 season-opening win against their rival Celtics in double OT.

The Knicks had things seemingly wrapped up with a 112-106 lead with 29.3 seconds remaining in regulation, but the Celtics scored 10 points in the final half-minute, including seven in the final 11.5 seconds to force overtime at 116-116.

After one OT was not enough, both teams entered the second one gassed, missing dunks and leaving shots short. Evan Fournier eventually hit a late 3-pointer to give the Knicks a 136-134 lead with 56.1 seconds remaining:

A Derrick Rose floater in traffic sealed the game to get the Knicks a win in the opener.

Julius Randle led the Knicks with 35 points, nine assists, and eight rebounds. Evan Fournier had 32 points against his former team in his Knicks debut. Kemba Walker was also playing against his former team and chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Knicks had to outlast a career-high 46-point night from Jaylen Brown, who added nine rebounds and six assists. This was after he battled COVID-19 which left him having trouble breathing and questionable for this game. Jayson Tatum added 20 points and 11 rebounds but struggled from the field shooting 7-of-30.
