Here are our picks for Week 6 of the NFL season:
Trash List:
Clyde Edwards Helaire:
A projected first-round pick this season in fantasy, where many owners did take him, hasn’t exactly worked out in their favor. After a breakout week one performance, CEH has come back down to earth. He has yet to score a touchdown on the season and his matchup this week against the Buffalo Bills doesn’t look very helpful. The Bills contained star backs Derrick Henry and Josh Jacobs to only 57 and 48 yards rushing in their last two games. This Bills defense isn’t the same as it was last year, but they still look stout against the run. Unless Helaire can get going in the passing game, it’s best to look elsewhere for RB1 production this week.
Miles Sanders:
The Philadelphia Eagles go up against a very good Baltimore Ravens team this week. The Ravens are 5th in the NFL against the run, and while having an explosive offense, I expect the Ravens to be up early and often. Playing from behind I expect the game script to change drastically out of Sanders favor this Sunday, for fantasy managers your hope will be that he gets lots of work in the passing game, but this week don’t expect a boom from Sanders.
Allen Robinson:
Robinson and the Bears are facing off against a good Carolina Panthers defense who is excelling in defending the pass. Panthers cornerback Donte “Action” Jackson has excelled this year. Two weeks ago shadowing DeAndre Hopkins, Hopkins only had 41 yards receiving with no scores. He left the game against the Falcons last week in the second half with an ankle injury but has practiced in a limited capacity during the week. Robinson owners should monitor Jackson’s status this week, but if he plays, I would find a better WR2 option than AR12.
Darius Slayton:
I know...I know...he had a great game last week, 129 yards receiving! Yet, that was against the league's 31st ranked defense against the pass in the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants opponent this week, the Washington Redskins, have allowed the sixth-fewest passing yards per game. And with a very good defensive line that will create pressure against a struggling quarterback in Daniel Jones, I don’t see a lot of opportunity for Slayton in this one. It’s best to keep Slayton on your bench in this one.
Treasure List:
Jonathon Taylor:
Taylor makes the treasure list this week because he has a favorable matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals are giving up a league's third-best yards per carry which is 5.3 yards. Last week Taylor averaged close to 5 yards per carry against a solid Cleveland Browns defense. The Indianapolis Colts offensive line is also known for its good run blocking. Put Jonathon Taylor in your lineup this week and if you don’t have him, try to trade for him.
James Robinson:
Robinson had a rough outing last week against a division rival in the Houston Texans, but I think this will be a bounce-back week for him. Robinson is facing a Detroit Lions defense that is allowing the most rushing yards per game this season. Robinson has averaged between 17-20 touches a game all season so the opportunity is there. Over the last few weeks, Robinson had heavily been involved in the passing game. With some of the Jacksonville Jaguars WRs banged up, I expect the Jaguars to lean more on Robinson.
Jonnu Smith:
I love him this week versus the Houston Texans. Through four games this season he has five touchdowns. Jonnu Smith has become one of the top options in the Tennesee Titans passing attack. TEs are slim in most leagues and he has proven to be one of the more reliable ones. Houston has struggled against TEs so far this season so insert Jonnu in your lineup.
Kirk Cousins:
The main reason Kirk Cousins makes the treasure list this week is that Dalvin Cook is a little banged up and may not play since their bye is next week. Due to this, I could see the Minnesota Vikings allowing Cousins to cook up a little bit more. Cousins is facing an Atlanta Falcons defense who has struggled all season so far. They rank 31st in passing defense. The Falcons secondary has also been impacted by injuries. Lock in Kirk Cousins to produce good numbers this week in what might be a high scoring game.
Stay tuned next Thursday for Trash or Treasure.
