Overreaction Monday - Or Not?

Sunday games give me topics to look at in the NFL about certain teams and their performances and whether I will overreact, or not to their play so far. Big wins for winless teams and back to back losses for AFC West teams is the highlight of the weekend games. Here is my take on it:

Houston Texans best team in AFC? Overreaction or not?

Deshaun Watson is playing at MVP level and perhaps is leading in the race, but this is an overreaction.

The Texans took down the mighty Kansas City Chiefs, giving them back to back losses. Whether that is due to Patrick Mahomes’ ankle injury or the other team’s performance is a different discussion. The Texans, however, did play well. They had a game plan to win and won the game behind great dink and donk plays to control the tempo of the game. But we can not forget the Indianapolis Colts, who are in the same division and was the first to beat the Chiefs this season. They are on a bye week and are a game behind the Texans for the division lead in next week showdown. Then, of course, there are teams like the Patriots, Bills, Ravens, and Cheif who tout either the same record or better. It is no denying however, the Texans have the leader of the MVP race in Watson on their team.

Dallas Cowboys in trouble? Overreaction or not?

Do not panic Dallas fans, we are not in trouble…yet.

As it remains, the Cowboys are still tied for division lead with the Philadelphia Eagles, who lost to the surging Vikings yesterday. The Boyz were hampered by many injuries to the offensive line in six-time All-Pro Tyron Smith and La'el Collins and their receiving core in Cooper and Cobb. Also, the defense has not looked spectacular, giving up long drives and plays to other teams in back to back weeks. But they still came on strong despite a bad play call by Moore and Garrett on the 2-PT conversion play and could’ve won the game. The Cowboys are still in it to win the division and the Eagles have their own problems as well with their cornerbacks issue and injuries. The Cowboys need to get healhy and get off to better starts and they can get sole lead in the division in next week SNF matchup.

The 49ers are NFC’s best team? Overreaction or not?

Now this is not an overreaction, the Niners are legit contenders for a SB this year.

The Niners are coming off the hands at an impressive win against the L.A. Rams yesterday, making Jared Goff look like his rookie self behind Jeff Fisher. The have a real identity, powered by a great defense and run game and excellent play-calling from head coach Kyle Shanahan. Jimmy G hasn’t been spectacular but he hasn’t loss games for the Niners which gives room for improvement. He did after all come back from season-ending injury last season. Right now, Niners have the number two scoring defense and run game so as their passing attack comes together, the sky is the limit for this team.

Panthers found their successor? Overreaction or not?

This is an overreaction…for now.

Kyle Allen is now 4-0 after defeating division rival ‘Bucs in London game. The Panthers now sit at 4-2 after losing first two games under Cam Newton. But Newton was injured, and when last seen healthy, Cam had his highest competition percentage and had the Panthers rolling for a playoff berth but was brought down by injuries until he sat out rest of season. Allen has brought life, along with of course MVP race leader Christian McCaffrey and his excellent play and might has even saved Ron Rivera’s job. But Cam is a former MVP that took Panthers to the Super Bowl, he deserves that respect. Unless Allen keeps winning and Newton injuries continue…

Falcons most disappointing team in NFL? Overreaction or not?

This is sadly, not an overreaction.

The Falcons was one of my teams to represent the NFC in the SB this year. You would think that with the defense getting healthy, the Falcons was one of the most complete teams this year. But that has not been the case. Another loss, this time at the hands of rookie QB Kyler Murray, carving the defense up with Ryan playing a near perfect game. Falcon fans have been raising concerns with head coach Dan Quinn, a defensive-minded coach. And when you see the Shanahan-led Niners off to a 5-0 start, former offensive coordinator for the Falcons, you can only wonder.
