'Fall Guys': The Next Hit Game?

If you like to describe yourself as a gamer, then I’m almost positive you’ve heard of this game.

The game that has taken PlayStation and PC platforms by storm and is making a name for itself in the gaming community ever since its release on August 4th this past year. Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is a 2020 platformer battle royale game developed by Mediatonic and published by Devolver Digital. The game has a variety of obstacle courses and mini-games in which you must compete against others for a chance at the crown. Starting with 50 contestants, each round a new course or mini-game is chosen at random in which you can compete to earn your spot in the next round. Depending on how many contestants were eliminated in the previous rounds, games typically tend to last about 4-5 rounds (from my experience that is). 

Now, you may be wondering, “Tovo, I don’t understand, what makes you think this could be the next big game? Sounds like a regular game to me.” And if I hadn’t played the game myself, I probably would agree. It doesn’t sound like anything that hasn’t been done before. But in fact, it is definitely a game that have a lot of potential.

For one, the game is very simplistic. There aren’t pages of different settings and controls, the game isn’t overrun by tremendous visual effects and the concepts aren’t complex. It’s simple and user friendly, allowing any user to quickly learn and play. Not only is Fall Guys simplistic, but it is like many battle royale games: very addictive and competitive. That rhythm you get in when trying to reach that number one spot and obtain the crown can lead one down a very long journey. It’s almost as if you can’t stop playing until you win. Not many games can induce a player into playing a game for hours and hours at a time, but Fall Guys sure do make it look easy! Lastly, it is a game that many find entertaining to watch. Like Fortnite and FPS games, it’s a game that is enjoyable and action-packed. Services like Twitch and Youtube are sure to boost this game’s viewership in the upcoming months.

So, if you ask me, I’ll say Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout is going to be a very popular game. One, because it’s very simplistic. There is no huge learning gap when playing this game, almost like everyone’s on even playing grounds. It’s also a very addictive and competitive game; one that can be played for hours at a time. Additionally, it is very enjoyable to watch. Already on streaming services like Twitch, it is competing for the most live views with over 100k watching. In short, I’m willing to bet the game has more in store for us than we’ve already seen.
