Chet Holmgren to miss entire 2022-23 NBA season

Thunder C Chet Holmgren will miss the entire 2022-2023 season with a Lisfranc injury to his right foot, reported by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Holmgren was the No. 2 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.

He suffered the injury in a pro-am game at the CrawsOver in Seattle on Saturday after he made contact with Lakers F LeBron James on a fast break. Here is the play that resulted in the injury:

The news is devastating for a young Thunder team that was looking to add Holmgren to a talented squad that includes Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and last year’s first-round pick Josh Giddey.

People on social media have already questioned how this will affect future NBA contracts as in this offseason we’ve seen multiple NBAers participate in pro-am across the country. The NBA currently doesn’t have anything in their CBA or player’s contracts prohibiting play during the summer. But with the latest injury to Holmgren, who joins a list of high-draft picks who ended up missing their rookie season, that can certainly change in the next CBA talks.
