The Colts QB is undergoing foot surgery today and is expecting to miss 5-12 weeks as he rehabs head coach Frank Reich says.

The injury is a setback for the Colts who entered the season as title contenders. They will surely be without Wentz from training camp onward, possibly the first few weeks of the NFL season.

Colts and Wentz met over the weekend to decide what was the best option for the injury-prone QB who was entering his first season with Indiana.

"I think it was a gut punch for him for about two hours," Reich said

The gamble was Colts gave up a third-round pick in this year's draft and a conditional second-round pick (which could become a first-rounder if Wentz either plays at least 75% of the Colts' offensive snaps or plays 70% of the snaps and the Colts reach the playoffs) in the 2022 draft.

Jacob Eason, Sam Ehlinger, and Brett Hundley are the remaining QBs on the roster. Their first few games of the season is against NFC powerhouses in the Seahawks and Rams then strong AFC foes in the Titans and Ravens. Their season could be over before Wentz ever gets back.
