Indy Trades For Carson Wentz, But Can He Deliver A Title For Them?

The Colts got their QB, cheap at that, but can they muster whatever former greatness he once had to compete for a championship?
Yesterday, the Philadelphia Eagles finally dumped QB Carson Wentz in a trade to the Indianapolis Colts for a 2021 third-round draft pick and a 2022 second-round pick that could become a first-round selection, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
This move made sense for both clubs. Wentz won the power struggle in Philly but the strained relationship between him and former coach Doug Peterson had already created a rift between the QB and the Organization resulting in him wanting out. The Colts needed a QB after old-timer Philip Rivers retired from football to go off into coaching. And Colts Head Coach Frank Reich has a former relationship with Wentz, serving as his offensive coordinator during the 2017 season where Wentz had an MVP caliber season. Though the pairing seems perfect, there is skepticism regarding the 28-year-old QB regarding if he is still an elite QB and can lead this team to a title.
Wentz had some highs and lows in his time in Philly. After showing promise during his rookie season, he quickly developed to elite-level play and had Philly as the hottest team in the NFL. What could’ve been an MVP season for him quickly faltered as he suffered an ACL injury that kept him out of the Eagles Super Bowl run with Philly legend Nick Foles guiding them. Any QB ego would take a blow as they saw someone else guide their team to a championship. After that, he fell again and again to injuries that chipped away at his confidence until this season where he finally broke. His play was so poor that he got bench in favor of rookie quarterback Jalen hurts. Worse than that, in press conferences, he failed to take accountability for his play often and all but kicked his Super Bowl-winning head coach out of town.
Now he lands in Indy where he gets a chance to revive his career with a great team. If he can reach that level, this team full of playmakers on both sides can resemble a la 2017 Eagles. But there is a lot of pressure on this team now. Deshaun Watson was on the market and he was by far the best available QB. Whatever you had to do to get him should’ve been on the table. We see how last year went, it was reported that only two teams went after then free agent Tom Brady who eventually lead the Tampa Bay Bucs to a title. Will Watson, who most likely will only remove his no-trade clause for a championship-ready team, win a Super Bowl next season?
