Developing: Some NBA players might not want to resume season
The NBA players will not shut up and possibly will not dribble.
Former NBA Player Matt Barnes sent shockwaves to the NBA fanbase when he appeared on Yahoo Sports’ “Dunk Bait” with Josiah Johnson and said “…some teams not being comfortable” in reference to restart of the NBA season with the current situation of our country.
In the video, Barnes says, “some guys want to play and some don’t want to play.”
Since the tragic death of George Floyd due to police brutality, communities have gathered together all over the country to protest and try to change the injustice that black communities and other people of color suffer due to racism and systematic oppression in the American justice system. Among these communities are NBA stars, standing alongside the people protesting in the streets.
The NBA just got the official word to resume on July 31st this past week, but fans might not get to see NBA action, and it’s for a better cause. With the situation of our country, it is hard to get excited over basketball even with the lengthy break. It’s just simply a bigger issue right now.
By the NBA players choosing not to play as a way to protest against racism and injustice all over, it will send a huge message as the league is a pro-dominantly black league. As not only one of America’s but a global favorite pastime, the message that the NBA players have been saying during these protests will be forced to be heard. We as a nation will not stand for injustice agaisnt black people any longer and Barnes along with some NBA players, as well as possibly fans, don’t want to see the season resume before this injustice is dealt with.
