Rivers, Sixers agree to deal - Rivers will be their next head coach

Doc Rivers has reached an agreement to become head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, sources tell ESPN's Woj.

The deal comes only a few days after the Clippers parted ways with Rivers, ending his seven-year tenure there in the Western Conference. Brett Brown, the previous coach was let go after they lost in the first round against the Boston Celtics.

Rivers will make his return to the same division he won the championship as head coach. The Sixers have two superstars players in Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons and an All-Star level player in Tobias Harris. This team with a few tweaks to the pieces that surround these three could make a championship-caliber team, especially with Rivers at the helm. As Clippers coach, he won 63% of their regular-season games, going 356-208.

The question is how much control and input will GM Elton Brand give Rivers in roster decisions. Since Elton Brand has become GM for the team in 2018, they have won less game and you can point that to the personnel on the team. Their best record with the duo of Embiid and Simmons came in 2017 when they had shooters like J.J Redick, Marco Belinelli, and Robert Covington to space the floor. Rivers have shown he can build a championship team and coach them to the promise land. The first thing Rivers and Brand will need to figure out is how to move Al Hortford and his big contract to bring in better role players for this team. Secondly and most importantly, can they get Simmons to shoot the ball.
