Cowboys hire Mike McCarthy as next head coach

The Dallas Cowboys have finalized their head coaching decision with former Packers head coach, Mike McCarthy, becoming the ninth head coach in Cowboys history.
News first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones had McCarthy spend the night at the Jones household. “Once you stay at Jerry's house, he doesn't lose his guy," told by Schefter. The McCarthy hire came early Monday morning after the Cowboys officially fired Jason Garrett the night before during the NFC Wild Card game between the Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles.
McCarthy coached the Packers to a Super Bowl victory in 2011 and compiled a record of 125-77-2 and made the playoffs in nine of his 13 seasons. He was let go by the Packers in 2018 after 12 games with rumors of disagreements between franchise quarterback Aaron Rodgers and “outdated” playcalling. Jones mandated that the next head coach for the Cowboys needed NFL coaching experience and was not just seeking the next hot collegiate coach like Oklahoma’s Lincoln Riley who was heavily rumored to be sought out by the Cowboys. Marvin Lewis was another name sources said to had meetings with the Joneses, but ultimately McCarthy was hired.
McCarthy should be able to bring a new offense to the Cowboys after the long tenure with former coach Garrett who showcased passive playcalling and inability to coach his team up and get the best out of them in crucial games. He is also known to have an elite ability to develop quarterbacks such as Rodgers and Bret Farve. Sources have said McCarthy spent a lot of last season going through a study of trends across the league while also planning for his next coaching job. Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore, offensive line coach Marc Colombo, quarterbacks coach Jon Kitna and receivers coach Sanjay Lal are all under contract and should be considered to stay after Dak had career numbers this season along with receivers Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup.
One thing for sure, McCarthy will be an upgrade from Garrett but will he be able to deal with Jerry Jones is the real questions fan can’t wait to see answered next season.
